I spent last week in
Rockport, Mass., which initially seems as far from Hollywood as you can get, both geographically and psychologically. Settled in the 1620s, it's a former fishing village northeast of Boston on the tip of Cape Ann. It boasts 238-year-old twin lighthouses on Thacher Island, and granite from its quarries helped build Chicago and New York in the 1800s. It's now full of quaintly rickety fish shacks, art galleries and ice-cream shops, and the empty quarries have become
spookily sensual swimming holes. But the more I hung around, the more I realized that Hollywood's tentacles reach, and are eagerly embraced, everywhere.
